About Us

Debbie Dixon has a B.S. in education with a certification in language and learning disabilities from Southwestern University. She has a M.S. in School Counseling from Amberton University, and a M.A. in Professional Counseling from Amberton University. She taught special education for 13 years and was a school counselor for 10 years. She has been working in a private counseling practice since 2001.  Debbie is a licensed professional counselor, a licensed marriage and family therapist, a registered play therapist, and a board approved supervisor. She is, also, board certified through (NBCC) National Board of Certified Counselors.

Her foundational strengths involve her faith in God and her love for her family. Debbie has been married for 36 years. She is the mother of 2 grown children and the proud grandmother of 2 little boys and 2 little girls.

Debbie’s primary theoretical orientations as a counselor include family systems and cognitive behavioral, as well as play therapy with children.   No one exists in a vacuum. On some level, we are all impacted by our families – past or present. It can be very helpful to look beyond an individual to the functioning/health of the family system of the individual.  Also, many of us have beliefs which may be rooted on faulty premises. Debbie believes that our thoughts determine our behaviors.  Before we try to change our behaviors, it can be helpful to explore the thoughts driving those actions.

She has presented numerous workshops/seminars for church groups and schools. She is able to combine her love for teaching and her passion for emotional growth in a relevant way that truly comes from her heart!  A few of the topics she has presented involve women’s issues, parenting, blended families, and coping/healing from trauma.
